🚽 1. The Septic System
The septic system is cottage-sized and very sensitive. Please follow these rules carefully.
- Single-ply toilet paper only — nothing else in the toilet
- No antibacterial soaps or cleaners
- Biodegradable cleaning products only
- No grease, oils, or animal fats down the drain
- Wipe dishes clean before washing — don't rinse grease into the sink
- Don't run the faucet continuously for dishes — partially fill the sink
💛 Bathroom rule: "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down."
💧 2. Water
Do not drink the tap water. It is safe for cooking and boiling, but not for drinking.
- Bottled water is in the shed
- Replacement bottles available at The Independent Grocer (Hwy 11 & Hwy 60 intersection)
- Please replenish any empty bottles before you leave
🔥 3. BBQ / Propane
The BBQ runs hot — settings rarely need to go above the 2nd or 3rd dot.
- Pull the BBQ WELL AWAY from the cottage wall before lighting
- BBQ tools hang in the mudroom by the light switches
- Extra propane tanks are in the shed
- Used/empty tanks: exchange at Home Depot, Home Hardware, or Mac's (Ravenscliffe/Hwy 11)
🪵 4. Wood Stove
When using the wood stove as a fireplace:
- Ensure the damper/flue is open — turn the knob counter-clockwise
- Burn black and white newspaper only — no magazines, colored newsprint, or cardboard
- A storage shelf may be attached in summer — the stove is NOT used when this shelf is in place
🛏️ 5. Linens
Guests must bring their own linens. You will need:
- Master Bedroom: Queen sheets
- Bunk Beds: Double & twin sets
- Bunkie: Twin bunks + queen loft bed sheets
- Pull-out Couch: Double sheets
- Pillows, bath/beach towels, hand towels, kitchen towels, and bath mats
🌸 6. Water Gardens & Flowers
The cottage has 11 pots and hanging baskets that need care:
- Water every couple of days
- Give them a good soaking when you leave
